What is the difference between ex-showroom and on-road price?
Ex-showroom is the vehicle price including GST and dealer margin. On-road adds registration and road tax, insurance, and whatever else the dealer includes — handling, accessories, extended warranty and so on. The gap is commonly 10–20% on a two-wheeler.
Which of these charges can I refuse?
Registration, road tax and third-party insurance are statutory. Handling or logistics charges have been held to be improper by consumer forums in several cases. Accessories, extended warranty, roadside assistance, service packages and paint protection are all optional — ask for them to be removed if you do not want them.
Why does the on-road price differ between dealers for the same model?
Ex-showroom and road tax are fixed, but the optional add-ons are not. Comparing two quotations line by line, rather than comparing the final figure, is what shows where the difference is.
